The FITS Project

The FITS (`Fortran Integrated Tool Set') project will create an integrated toolset for the development, maintenance and migration of Fortran applications for execution on a variety of HPC systems. FITS may be used to create and tune parallel Fortran 90 applications using MPI or HPF, with original features to deal with cache performance problems.

It is based upon two existing successful European products, and two research prototypes:

First, the production tools will be thoroughly integrated in a graphical environment, then innovative new features will be added to them, based on requirements stated by end users.

Two application developers in the project will use the FITS toolset to migrate industrial Fortran 77 legacy applications to Fortran 90 and parallel systems:
